If you like long walks, wild nature, pure greek hospitality and friendly people, well Tilos is the perfect place for you. A great number of paths (some of them quite difficult, but most of them easy) will allow you to reach every corner of the island on foot and admire the stunning beauty of its panoramas.
I went in October, the atmosphere there were more than relaxing and I had the feeling to be at home after few hours. Lots of restaurants and hotels were already closed but a lot of tourists choose exactly this period to come here to do trekking under the gentle Autumn sun. I would not suggest this islet for people looking for sandy beaches, cocktail bars etc... they would better go to Rhodes for this! I suggest Tilos for all Greece lovers and trekkers, they will not be disappointed!

I have been to quite a few Greek islands, but Tilos is my favorite chill out destination in Greece with its laid back atmosphere and the most incredible landscape of mountains and the Aegean Sea where nature is at its best and commercialism, thankfully, still far behind. When I arrived at the port by ferry from Rhodes, I was a bit disappointed with the crowds. It seemed like any other touristy Greek island.

But once I got out of the quayside and found myself on a narrow road to the hotel, I realized there was only a single road in Tilos, just a few hundred people, just a few cars and just a handful of shops. The hotel, located on the most tranquil corner of Livadia, had fabulous views. Particularly, the port at night was very beautiful with all those fading lights and the ferries coming and leaving the port even after midnight. A very relaxing sight to see late at night, sitting at your balcony with a beer at hand!

We usually went swimming in Livadia because it was easier to go on foot. But my favorite beach was Eristos, we discovered it the two days that we made the tour of the island on rental scooter. The wild mountains, the crystal water and the secluded atmosphere in Eristos frankly stole my heart!

The same did the lovely monastery at the far end of the only asphalt street in Tilos, an adorable spot among plane and pine trees. Walking up the castle in Megalo Horio is the biggest fatigue ever, but the view will compensate you. In the evenings, have a drink in the port of Livadia or in the only bar in Mikro Horio, the abandoned half-ruined village of Tilos.

We went to Tilos hoping to enjoy a quite island and it did not disappoint.
Great accommodation at the Ildis, great beaches, great tavernas, and a lovely coffee shop. Hired a car for 2 days as any longer would have been a waste of money.Overall if you want a calm peaceful holiday, Tilos is the place for you

I had been to Tilos before (2004) and knew what to expect of this lovely island. I mostly enjoyed the trips in the mountains and not crowdy beaches. There are a lot of beaches in Tilosfor few people. My best beach was in Livadia. This is the most developed village and you will find anything there. Megalo Chorio, the capital, is smaller and less developed.

The local food is in average very nice and the coffeeshop on main square is prefect. Do not miss the bar in Mikro Chorio with all this beautiful decoration and the lights that fall on the ruined houses. So romantic! I loved that there sre still something Greek on Tilos. This is the ideal place to go "offline", but you can also be "online" if you want. For more activity, go to Rhodes.

The only thing that might trouble you is organizing the trip. Boat schedules are not always accurate (especially in low or middle season) and most hotels are not on the Internet to book online, so you will probably have to call the hotels.

If you are looking for nightlife, this is not the place to go. But if you are looking for a great place to relax, nice beaches and locals who wants the best for you, then Tilos is the place to go. Even our kids (11 and 14) loved it.

Quiet and some boredom

The only place with some life on Tilos is Livadia and that applies only for the daytime. At night, it is total quiet. The only bar in Tilos is found among the ruins in Mikro Chorio. Thank God, there was at least one bar! Beaches were nothing worth to mention. Livadia is the most convenient beach to go as all hotels on the island are located around it. To cut a long story, I was a bit bored on Tilos. I had arranged to stay for 5 days and I left at 4, heading to Rhodes, the top Greek island for me with the best bars and beaches!

Thank God, we had rented a motorbike from Rhodes, otherwise it would be very difficult to move around Tilos. There is only one bus between Livadia and Megalo Chorio but itineraries are too unreliable. The island is tiny, you could be from one side to another is 20 minutes. Road were also horrible, just one main road that would get track in some points. The beaches though were nice, remote and clean, just like we wanted. As we went in early June, they were not very busy. I guess the island would get busier in July and August. If you expect nighlife on Tilos, you must be joking! There is just a cafeteria in Mikro Chorio that may stay open till 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning. Otherwise, you go to bed early. We stayed there only for three days. After 10 days in Faliraki Rhodes, we thought we could see a quieter place. Tilos is the exact opposite of Faliraki!
