Tilos News: First Gay Weddings in Greece

First Gay Weddings in Greece 2008-05-29 09:49:01 GMT

The Town Hall of Tilos, Dodecanese, is going to host the first gay civil weddings in Greece next month.  The island’s major Tasos Aliferis accepted the request of two gay couples (two women and two men) to prosecute their marriage.

The members of Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece object also the decree issued by the European Council in 1994, by which it asked the member states to eliminate from their legislation whichever discrimination against homosexuals and allow the marriage between them. In addition, the Treaty of Amsterdam demands that the countries shall eliminate the discriminations, amongst other reasons “and due to sexual orientation”.

The exact date of the fırst weddıng ıs not determıned yet, but it is scheduled for next month. Interesting will be also the reaction of the Church, which had gone against those marriages.
