Simi Villages: Pedi village in Simi
Simi Pedi 06 Pedi Village Simi: For the visitor to have a clear notion on Pedi village location, let’s say that Simi Island is divided into several different areas. Two of the main areas are Chorio, the town above the harbour, and Gialos, the harbour and its surrounding village. In the valley between Southern Gialos and Chorio, it is located Pedi village, in Pedi Bay.

In fact, Pedi is at 3 kilometres from Gialos Harbour, and a 10 minute walk from Chorio town. Pedi is a small traditional fishing village with a small stony beach and some fine sand as well.

It has some taverns, a couple of good supermarkets the whole area supply with food and other goods, and some family hotels by the seaside. Once an actual fishing village, it is now a tour village, mainly, as tourism is the main business in the area for the few local residents who still show a pleasant old-fashioned appeal in those stunning surroundings. The lands around the village which connect it to the beach nearby are full of almond orchards and olive groves, and the excellent old fishing taverns are already a part of the landscape.

As Pedi is placed on the local bus route, it is easy to reach, and visitors enjoy the beach side taverns serving traditional Greek food, some typical snacks -such as mezedakia-, and the local wine. They also enjoy the café and the candies and other goodies they can buy in the kiosk. The place is also easy to reach by the water taxi from Gialos, and on foot, from Chorio.

Pedi village offers interesting lodging options, The village is full of traditional neo classical houses, with wooden colourful doors and windows, and tiled roofs. It is worth a visit after a beach day, and its beautiful gardens, the fig and olive trees, and the orchards in the area are really inviting, as well as the smell of wild spices -such as oregano plants- growing freely on the hillsides.

Both for visiting Pedi beach and Pedi village, it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes because the ground is not always plain and even enough. It is also a good idea to take a sun hat, and some bottles of water with you, especially in summer, to avoid a sunstroke or a strained ankle that could spoil your holidays. Remember that there is a lack of fresh water on the island – that is why we advise to take some bottled water to your excursions – and that water on Simi is brought from Rhodes by water boats. Most tourists usually enjoy the several taverns on the bay, and the water taxis to some other very picturesque bays nearby.

Pedi village is ideal for families and for those who want a relaxing holiday. However the tour infrastructure of the place is not sophisticated and may not appeal to anyone, especially to those seeking a lively nightlife. Its main advantage may be that, although it receives a number of visitors every year, it has remained unspoilt.
