Simi faces a great problem with the illegal emigrants who continuously deluge the island. These people are coming by boat from the shores of Turkey and when they are arrested by the Greek Port Authorities, they are moved to the Police Station of Simi. As the island doesn't have the proper infrastructure to host them, they have to spend the night in the courtyard of the Police Station. As the mayor of the island said, "the government doesn't do anything to help Simi as this problem is far away from its door", while he also asked for the help of the Church to find a temporary but safe shelter for these illegal emigrants and give a solution to this issue in the best possible way.
