Salakos in Rhodes, Dodecanese Greece: This wonderful village is located 38 km from the cosmopolitan town of Rhodes, in the northwest coast of the island. The fountains with the crystal clear waters that feed the rich vegetation, the olives groves and the vines create a magnificent landscape.
It is a village well-maintained enough to be recognized as traditional where the older generations have preserved the customs and habits of the past. It is a place of great archaeological interest while the village is surrounded by ruins and traces from the Hellenistic period and a few churches from the Byzantine times.
Close to the end of the village there is the cave of Makarouna which is easily accessible and in a short distance from the village, in the coastal side, there are ruins of three cities of Ancient Rhode, a sight that is worth visit. Salakos combines a mountainous and a coastal beauty that is worth to explore. |
