Rhodes Medieval Rose Festival

The Medieval Rose Festival of Rhodes: The Medieval Rose Festival gives you the chance to participate in the Witches and Fairies Dance, watch enthralling tricks of the Fire Eater, Jugglers, and Jesters, or just enjoy scrumptious banquets. Conducted by Medieval Rose, a non-governmental and nonprofit organization, and aims to recreate the magic of medieval Rhodes in the Medieval Town of Rhodes, this unique festival became an annual tradition since 2006. It usually takes place on the last weekend of May but its preparation lasts for the whole year round.

Held in collaboration with the Municipality of Rhodes as well as the Prefecture of Dodecanese, the festival's venue, the Medieval Town of Rhodes, is a Monument of Cultural and Architectural heritage of the World, as declared by UNESCO in 1992. This beautifully preserved monument is complete with a surrounding wall and a moat, making the experience even more real. The organizing committee consists of historians, archaeologists, musicians, actors, visual artists, actors and craftsmen, all trying to make the festival as authentic as possible. Many volunteers also participate in this festival and every guest who enters the town is invited to take part in the Festival.

The Medieval Rose Festival officially takes off with the third sounding of the trumpet and the walk of the Order of the Knights, cavalry and infantry and the remaining entourage, from the Castle along the Streets of the Knights. The entire town is done up like it would have been during medieval times, complete with wooden stalls selling traditional dishes and handicrafts, exhibitions, puppet theatres, archery, and chess contests as well as entertaining dance and music performances.

These attractions are spread all over the city and visitors are provided with banquets fitting royalty, as they explore the wonderful setting. The festival is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to have fun. Both children and adults learn a lot about the rich history that shaped this medieval town.
