Here are some of the religious and
non-religious events and festivals which are taking
place on the island of Patmos.
On the 6th of August, the inhabitants of Patmos celebrate
the Feast of the Saviour, at the church and the village
of Kambos with a religious ceremony followed by dances,
dancing and food.
Same thing happens on the 15th of August for the celebration
of the Feast of the Virgin Mary.

Dances, music,
food and wine are available at the great feast before
the celebration of the Cross. The religious ceremony takes
place at the church in the village of Grikos and is followed
by another feast where local instruments are played and
free drinks are served.
On the 15th of March, a ceremony is held in the church
of Chora (capital of the island) in honour of the Feast
of Agios Christodoulos, founder of the famous Monastery
of Saint John the Theologian. |

On Good Friday, the Recreation of the Deposition of the
Christ from the Cross is held at the Monastery of Saint
John the Theologian, in Chora.
On Monday after Easter, the Celebration on the Second
day of Easter is held in Skala, during which the Municipality
distributes free food to all the visitors. On the 8th of May a religious ceremony is held in the
Monastery of Saint John the Theologian, in Chora, in honour
of the saint. |
