General information

Skala Beach Patmos: Skala is the largest settlement and the capital of Patmos. It is located at the central part of the island, about 4 km from Chora. It is well-developed with all the needed facilities. The small sandy beach of Skala is situated next to the port and while that can be considered a disadvantage, at the same time the beach receives many visitors for its crystal waters. Many hotels surround this beach and a few trees provide nice shade. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available for rent.

See the port from your hotel
Most (and best) hotels on Patmos are found in Skala because they give views to the long beach and the main port of Patmos. We chose to stay in Skala to be close to the port when we arrived and left the island. Anyway, I like the view of the port at night when ships with big lights or small fishing boats are moored there. Something close to the beach was also preferable. The beach of Skala was quite long and very clean. Water was not too cold or too warm, it was the right amount. I was surprised when I went one day to swim very early in the morning (8 a.m.) and the sea was warm. They had told me that beaches are warmer in the morning but I didn't believe them, it is true! Many lovely taverns line Skala beach with delicious dishes (altough there were not any traditional menu, just the typical food you find in every island). No bars, no clubs.
