The main local product available on Nisyros is Soumada, which is a non-alcoholic drink made from almonds. This drink is quite popular with locals and tourists alike. Other products include the honey available on the island, preserved baby tomatoes, a unique and scrumptious variety as well as caper. As a souvenir, visitors can buy handmade embroidery, which is available in a wide variety on the island.
Some other, must try local products are the cheese kind of "krasotyri", meaning "wine-cheese". It is a sun-dried cheese which stays in a brine of boiled vinegar and salt or a mixture of boiled wine, vinegar and salt. There are also the pitthia or chick-pea balls, available from any tavern or even along the narrow streets of Nisyros.
