Nisyros Architecture: Information about the architecture of Nisyros Greece, Dodecanese

The colorful history is reflected in its architecture. Visitors will mainly witness the many white washed houses lining the island.

Some houses are colored, but all of them have flat roofs. The roofs of all these houses are covered with pumice stone on the outside and reeds on the inside to make then stronger and more resistant to harsh weather.
Almost all houses have balconies or gardens and Nisyrians love to cultivate flowers and other beautiful plants in their gardens.

The streets are very narrow with most of the houses having been built one next to the other. Except for the roof, the houses on the island show characteristics of typical Greek architecture found on other islands as well.
Some older and more traditional stone houses also still exist on the island, though not many.
