Church of Agios Georgios in Drymonas |

This early Christian church stands in the village of Drymonas,
west of the capital of Leros.
It is a vaulted church with a large apse.
Inside, a 14th century fresco is embellishing its southern
walls.

Church of Agios Petros |

The church of Agios Petros (Saint Peter) is rectangular
and has a cupola.
In is standing in Drymonas, and was built on the ruins
of an early Christian three-aisled basilica.

church of Agios Isidoros |

The lovely church of Agios Isidoros stands on the islet
of Alinda (in the Gulf of Gourna) that is connected to
the land by a narrow passage.
The little chapel is built on the site of an ancient temple,
the ruins of which can still be seen behind the altar. |

Church of Our Lady of the Castle |

This beautiful church stands inside the castle of Platanos,
capital of Leros. The icon of the Virgin housed in the
church is supposed to be miraculous and is connected with
a local legend. It is an early Christian church dating
from the 10th century and has a small religious museum.

church of Panagia Gourlomata |

The church is a vaulted church with a semi-circular apse.
It is housing beautiful frescoes dating from the 14th
century. From an inscription mentioning that the church
was renovating in 1327, it is assumed that it was built
during the 12th or 13th century.

Monastery of Agios Ioannis |

Standing in Lakki, the beautifully gleaming white church
of Agios Ioannis Theologos (Saint John the Theologian)
is surrounded by lush vegetation.
The ruins of various early Christian and Byzantine churches
have been used for the construction of this three-aisled
basilica.
The church houses an important and valuable fresco depicting
the Communion of Saint Mary the Egyptian,
by Zosimas, dated from the 13th century. |

It is considered as an historical
scheduled building because of its unique frescoes painted
by exiled artists who were part of the political prisoners
who were send in Leros during the Greek dictatorship (1967-1974).

church of Panagia Kavouradena |

This beautiful small church is located near the settlement
of Xirokambos, 7 kilometres south of Agia Marina.
It has
been built in a crevice of the seaside rocks.
According
to local legend, a fisherman saw an Icon of the Virgin
among the rocks and was cured from a bite he had on his
hand.
During the night, he dreamt about a woman who told him
to return the icon to the place he found it.
A small church was built on the place were the icon was
found. Locals consider this icon as miraculous.
