Windy beach with crazy warm water

Category: Karpathos Damatria

The road to Damatria is good and there are places for car in the parking. It wasn't crowded but there are only few umbrellas for rent and it is usually all taken. This beach was the most windy of all others. Even more windy than Agrilopotamos! It is impossible to put your own umbrella. It is rocky beach, but when you get into the water it is sandy and the water is so warm and calm. It is crazy, but we loved it. And the water is shallow. In the water there are a lot of small crabs in shell, but they won't hurt you. Beach is good for kids but still, the wind is very strong. You should definitely visit this beach.

This beach is not organized and only people who like water sports come here, but we had to visit it. It is sandy, very very windy with clean really cold water. First 2 meters in water it is warm but after that it is super cold. But colors of the water are beautiful, and you can at least come and take pictures, and one swim. At least.

Category: Karpathos Amopi Pera Ammos

We rented a studio in Amoopi, and we loved this place. It is not that big, but it doesn't have a lot of restaurants and markets. Still, it has the most beautiful beach. The main Amoopi beach is in the middle and I think that one is better than Mikri Amoopi and Votsalakia. Amoopi Pera is sandy beach, with clean clear warm water. It gets deep soon and than again shallow, it is so strange and funny but good. There is no wind, like in other beaches so this place is perfect for families, and for me who doesn't like cold water :) there is also natural shade there, and umbrellas for rent. But you should come as soon as you can cause after noon there is no umbrellas for rent. Make sure you visit this beach.

Category: Karpathos Diakoftis

I still dream about this beach, that is how beautiful it is. The road is tricky. When you get off the main road, the rocky road that leads you to the beach is very long and bad, but it is worth it. First time we went there we thought we were lost, but there are small signs that will lead you to Diakoftis. And when you get there the color of the water will blow your mind. There is enough place for cars, but not enough umbrellas that you can rent. It gets crowded but not too much, there is always space for everyone, and for your own umbrella. But the wind can get really strong so if you bring your own umbrella maybe you'll have trouble opening it, like we did. It is sandy beach, water is really cold, but worth it. When you go into the water it is long shallow part, and i love it. It is clear and nothing but sand in it. There is another side of Diakoftis beach, the water there is also clean, but no one was taking a swim there, i still don't know why. I think there were some rocks when you get into the water, but you can go there at least to take pictures cause it is beautiful. I loved, loved loved Diakoftis because it looks unreal and the water is so clear and clean. Too bad for the wind and cold water, but worth visiting.

Agios Nikolaos Arkassa excellent beach

Category: Karpathos Arkassa Beach

In many reviews they will tell you not to visit west side of Karpathos, but that is a mistake! Agios Nikolaos and Agios Theodoros are beaches in Arkassa that are wonderful. They are organized, but Theodoros is a bit far. Theodoros has no wind, it is partly pebbled, partly sandy and the water is cold. But it is a nice beach and has a clay and people that come here like to put that clay all over their body, it looks funny.
But Agios Nikolaos is better beach. It is sandy, not that windy so you can put your own umbrella. It has showers too. And the water is so warm, you will love it! It has waves but they weren't big, they are good for children. The only bad thing was that it gets crowded in the afternoon, and some local Greeks that come are noisy and not that friendly. But we still think this beach is maybe the best in Karpathos.

Natural shades and good place for swimming

Apella, Kyra Panagia and Achata have almost the same roads. You turn right from the main road, and there is a long, narrow, curvy road all the way down. But you will love Achata when you get there. We found the spot and parked our car, and the beach wasn't that crowded. It has natural shade from a big tree so you can stay there or rent an umbrella, or put your own umbrella. The beach is rocky, the water is cold, but not too much. It gets deep very soon, but it is good beach if you want to swim and climb on the rocks. Water is crystal clean and there is no wind in this beach, which is rare on Karpathos. Beach is beautiful, and you should visit it.

I loved Karpathos so much, but this beach was a disappointment for us. The road was partly good but the rest of it very curvy. When we finally got there, parking is tricky, and narrow. The sand is so hot it burns your feet through your shoes. The water is very cold and it gets deep almost immediately. It is very organized beach, it has studios, and restaurants, but it was really hot on the beach, even with an umbrella. For us, it was the worst beach and not worth visiting.

Pebbled, very long beach, with cold, crystal clear water. Water also has an amazing color, you just can't stop looking at it and taking pictures. This beach is good for those who like to swim. In the afternoon, you won't need umbrella cause there is natural shades from big rocks. It is a bit windy so if you bring your own umbrella, you will have trouble putting it on the ground, but we managed. It is a bit far from Amoopi where we stayed, but the road is good. Parking is a bit tricky, but we always found a spot. Beach is beautiful and definitely worth visiting.

More organized than other beaches on the island

Apela is one of the few organized beaches of Karpathos, along with Amopi. Do not imgazine any beach bars and great luxuries, just a dozen of umbrellas and some taverns. The other beaches of Karpathos are totally isolate, although they are very nice. Apela has sand and a few pebbles once you get into the sea. The water is clean. To go there, you definitely need a car because buses do not go. Or go by boat from Pigadia.

Unfortunatly every single beach in the island is full with umprellas and sunbeds. Of course this is not a nice view for people who admire the beautty of the island. I have been many times in Karpathos but I am not going there again due to ugly environment of the beaches with umprellas and sunbeds. Even we did not have space for us who do not wish sunbeds. The most tragic is that it happens in the 3 most beautyfull Beaches Kyra Panagia, Apella and specially Ahata. It is a shame for the island such conditions on the beaches. It looks to me that the Karpathians they don't really care too much about their island. For how long do they beleive that tourists will be interested in croudy beaches full of sunbeds???

Too much isolated

Psoraris nice but nothing very special. If you enjoy isolation, go, as you may find yourself alone in a very long beach, espacially if it is May or June, where the island does not recieve many tourists. But if you are looking for beach bars and umbrellas, like we do, avoid Psoraris. The waters though are great and the view of the beach from the hill is woderful. But again too much isolation.
