The Efta Custom in Karpathos Dodecanese: Mnay of the traditional customs in karpathos survice till today. The locals maintain their customs, that usually refer to important moments in their life. Such is the interesting custom of "Efta" that survives till today in some villages of Karpathos island and it is found only there from all Greece.

This is actually a feast celebrated seven days after the birth of a child. Young women go to the house of the new born child and swing a crib for it. Later on, friends and family come over, sing traditional songs and wish the baby good luck and a happy life. The mother serves a traditional sweet to the guests, known as "alevra". This sweet is made of flour, water, honey and butter. Then, the Christian baptism of the child takes place.
