The most famous and picturesque corner on Astypalea is the path that leads to the Venetian Castle in Chora. This path is lined by nine, beautifully-preserved windmills. These windmills were built in the 18th and the 19th century. They are not used today to grind the wheat with the power of the wind, but they remind to all locals and visitors the traditional character and long history of this small island.
