All villages on Astypalea are small and most of them are found on the seaside. They have a few permanent inhabitants that deal with agriculture and fishing. Some others also occupy with tourism. The capital of the island is Chora and the most tourist spot is Pera Yialos.

Location: Located almost in the middle of the island
Description: Chora is the capital village of Astypalea. It is known for its traditional architecture and its Venetian Castle. The most picturesque corner of Chora is the path that leads to the Castle, lined by nine windmills.

Location: Located 1 km from Chora
Description: Pera Gialos is within a walking distance from Chora. It is the most tourist spot on the island and has a long, sandy beach.
