All villages on Astypalea are small and most are found on the seaside. They have few permanent inhabitants that deal with agriculture and fishing. Some others also occupy with tourism. The capital of the island is Chora and the most tourist spot is Pera Yialos.

Location: Located on the southern side of the island
Description: Town, or Chora, is the capital village of the island. It is known for its traditional architecture and the Venetian Castle. The most picturesque corner of Chora is the path that leads to the Castle, lined by nine windmills.

Description: Pera Gialos is the closest beach resort to Chora. It has many tourist facilities and an organized beach.
Location: 9 km north east of Chora
Description: Analipsi is a beautiful seaside village spread on a valley. Some excursion boats leave from there and make the tour of the island.
Location: 2 km south west of Chora
Description: Livadia is the greenest village of the island, as it has many gardens and vineyards. It is located close to Chora.
Location: 21 km north east of Chora
Description: Vathi is a small village on the north eastern spot of the island. The secluded region is ideal to relax.
