Indeed, Astypalea looks like a butterfly on the map! From closer, it is the quietest Greek island I have been to. Some old people are living there permanently who are very friendly to the tourists and welcomed us from their heart. Mr Christos, who runs a store in Chora, bought us some delicious local red wine and almost all taverns treated us a dessert or fruits after meal. While I was on the island, I thought that those people must lead a hard life in winter there, as ferry connection to the rest of Greece is not convenient at all and jobs are difficult to be found. I did't see any nightlife on Astypalea, except for some cafeterias in Chora that stayed till midnight. Maltezana and Pera Gialos are probably the most popular beaches, though do not expect crowded shores as in other islands.
