It is the village of marble sculpture with a great number marble and wood carving work shops and a School of Fine Arts. It is known for being also the birthplace of many famous sculptors.

Marble is every where: above the colourful doors of the houses, on the fountains, in the cemetery with its wonderful sculptures and in the completely marble-made buildings which make Pyrgos an outdoor architectural museum.
