TINOS SUGGESTED EXCURSIONS

Although Tinos has gradually developed as a tourist destination over the last years, it still keeps its peaceful and traditional character. This is the most authentic out of the tourist-developed Cycladic islands.

You will find below our excursions suggestions for 1, 2 or 3 days on the island of Tinos Greece
One day in Tinos: Chora and Agios Ioannis Porto

Tinos Suggested Excursions 01Tinos is mostly famous as a religious destination for the Greeks and as a pristine island for the foreigners. The main village and transportation hub of Tinos is Chora, the capital of the island, located on the southern side.

Chora is a nice village for a walk. Its architecture is a mixture of traditional and neoclassical style. Walk through the narrow paths, have a look at the gift shops and visit the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin, an impressive church which is considered as the protector of all Greece.

At the port, you will see the momument of Elli, the warship that was torpedoed by the Italians in August 1940, right at the port of Tinos, to make Greece enter the Second World War. Another sight to see at the port is the building of the Foundation of the Tinian Culture. Pallada, a neighbourhood of Tinos, about 500 metres from the port, is the nightlife spot of the island, with many cafeterias and bars.

On the eastern side of Chora, there are the most popular beaches of the island. Agios Sostis and Agios Ioannis Porto are the most famous. They have excellent water and they are surrounded by tourist facilities.

Two days in Tinos: Pyrgos and Panormos

Tinos Suggested Excursions 021st day as described above.
On the second day, have a morning swim in Kionia, about 3 km from Chora, and then head off to Panormos, a tourist village to the north western side of the island. Along your way, you will find Kardiani, a small mountainous village with nice architecture. Old windmills and dovecotes dot the landscape and you get a great view of the sea.

About 7 km north of Kardiani, there is Pyrgos, probably the most picturesque village of Tinos. This village was the birthplace of Giannoulis Chapelas, a famous Greek sculptor. His house and workshop have been turned into a museum today.

Continue 4 km from Pyrgos and there is the seaside village of Panormos, a quiet place with a sandy beach. Due to its long distance from Chora, Panormos doesn't get much crowded. Fish taverns at the beachside offer traditional dishes.

Three days in Tinos: Dyo Choria and Kolympithra

1st and 2nd days as described above.
Start the third day with a morning walk in Dyo Choria village, about 10 km from Chora, in the inland of the island. On the way there, you will meet many other traditional, mountainous villages of Tinos and you will see a nice lanscape around, doted with monasteries and other chapels. Note that Tinos has about 1,000 churches and monasteries.

Then, take the road to Kolympithra. This is an organized beach on the northern side of Tinos, about 15 km from Dyo Choria. It is a nice, sandy coast with some tourist facilities around. Although Kolimbithra gets windy sometimes, it is generally safe and relaxing.
