 The Ursulines Monastery of Tinos Cyclades: The Monastery of Ursulines in Loutra Tinos doesn't work today but in the past it used to be an important educational centre for girls from all over the country. Today, the complex works as a large folklore museum where people can see the rooms and furniture of the centre unattached and in their exact place as in the past.
The Monastery of Ursulines worked as a female educational centre for 133 years from 1862 till 1993. It particularly flourished from 1910-1930, when young girls from all over the country would come there as boarders. Today, in the premises of the monastery, visitors can see rooms for sewing, painting, music, photography, a theatre where performances used to take place, laboratories of chemistry and physics, dormitories, kitchens and reception halls. |
