Villages: Poseidonia village in Syros |
Poseidonia Village, Syros: The coastal settlement of Poseidonia took its name from the god of the sea, Poseidon, and owes its second name from the Catholic Church Santa Maria Della Grazia.
Located 12 kilometres south-west of Ermoupolis, Poseidonia is full of gardens, pine trees and beautiful neoclassical houses, which testify about the past nobility and the “Belle Époque” of Syros during the 19th century.
It was one favourite place of the island’s wealthy class who built their retreat mansions there, which explains the beautiful buildings still standing today, finely preserved. |
