
Milk
local products are delicious in Syros and produced in
the island which has tasty, thick yogurt, and various
local cheeses such as “Saint Michali” and “kopanisti”,
a soft, spicy cheese which is eaten hot, accompanied with
ouzo.
Fresh fish is worth to be trying in Syros, brought every
morning by the fishermen.
Local sausages are unbelievably good and ideal for eat,
accompanied with a glass of red wine.
Even if Syros is not specialized in wine production, some
home made wines can be found from local small vineyards
and can be really good.
The local liquor called “grand-mother’ drink” is a mixture
of cherry and brandy which is first exposed in the sun
and then complete with spices and fruits; a real delight.
Finally, the local honey tastes divinely and has a wonderful
aroma and after taste of thyme. |
