The Museum of Markos Vamvakaris in Syros Cyclades: The museum of Markos Vamvakaris is placed on the central road of Ano Syros, on 3, Agiou Sevastianou st. It is housed in a two-storey building that was restored in order to turn into a museum. It opened in 1995 and it is an expression of the love and respect of the Syros community to this prestigious musician.
Markos Vamvakaris was a great composer, who was born in Ano Syros in 1905. He was actually an expert in rebetiko music and famous both in Greece and abroad for his songs, in particular "Frangosyriani". The museum counts on many of his personal objects, including photographs, souvenirs, his passport, his identity card, his clothes and especially his 50 pairs of shoes. There are also manuscripts, his ring, his watch, pliers and small knives. These objects were kindly offered to the museum by his family.
