The Archaeological Museum

This museum is located in the beautiful medieval village of Kastro and it is housed in a fine two-storey traditional building belonging to the medieval heritage of Kastro, donated by the Academician Maridakis to the Ministry of Culture which restored it in 1980. The museum opened in 1986.

The museum has been extended to house findings from the Mycenaean acropolis of Agios

and Popular Art testify about the recent history of Sifnos.

It shows the traditional, rural and cultural heritage and aspects of Sifnian life.

Among the large and rich exhibition of the museum one can see numerous exhibits such as a collection of various swords and guns, local costumes, embroideries and laces, domestic and rural tools and utensils, various fine potteries, busts of famous Sifnian and a collection ofvarious Sifnian newspapers and

Andreas and houses as well a collection of Archaic and Hellenistic sculptures, funerary sculptures and architectural items dating from the Archaic to the Roman period (6th to 1st century BC), various ceramics found in Kastro which are dating from the Geometric to the Hellenistic period (8th to 2nd century BC), a fine collection of coins, a 6th century BC marble head of a Kouros, a 6th century BC marble ionic capitol and many other findings.

The Museum of Ecclesiastical Art and Tradition
Housed in the monastery of Panagia tis Vrysis (Our Lady of the Fountain) this museum exhibits a large number of artefacts such as handmade embroidered vestments (in particular some made by Kassiani(, holy vessels, parchments, manuscripts, silver reliquaries, codices, old publications of the Gospels and various beautiful icons.
