Serifos, located north west of Sifnos, is a rocky island that appears naked, uninhabited and barren from the sea, as its hilly lands, which are full of gorges, are crowned by Mount Tourlos, 483 metres high, which can be seen from a distance.
However, the place is not barren at all. It owes a variety of income resources which, in spite of being modest, are enough for the locals to get by and make a living. Agriculture, open cast mines of iron and tourism are the most relevant industries on the island. |
