Festivals are one of the main Serifos attractions, as they are an important part of the island’s tradition and are fun as well. As these celebrations are related to the saints the churches are dedicated to -and Serifos has plenty - there is a wide range of options.
In fact, every village has at least one church honouring its Patron Saint, and that is enough to host at least one festival.
However, most of these events take part during winter and they all start on the Eve of each saint’s festivity. Traditional dinner and wine cannot lack, while in most of them these are accompanied by local music and dance.

The most popular festival of Serifos is the one dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary) taking place on August 14th. Although many visitors go to this village, there are festivals in every church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Therefore, the villages of Ramos, Liomandra and Skopiani celebrate this event, too, and usually the whole island population participates in them. The festival itself consists of three days of traditional singing, dancing and eating.
The second day of Panagia festival (August, 15th), the |

festival of Agios Nicolaos
takes place in Pyrgos.
