People in Schinoussa island are very religious, as it is usual with all Greeks. To show their faith, the few inhabitants have built many lovely chapels in the villages and the coutryside of the island. |

The most important church in Schinoussa is the church of Panagia Akathi in the capital vilage, which is considered as the protector of the island.
Built in traditional Cycladic architecture in the colours of blue and white, it stands proudly in the middle of Schinoussa village.
The locals love a lot this church and, in fact, many
women on the island have taken their name from this church and they are called "Akathi".

Other nice churches can be found all over the island, such as the church of the Annunciation of the Virgin in Mersini village.
