General:
The beauty of this island is immense and there is so much to see and do that it requires more than just a couple of days here. From the Northern tip, the beautiful Oia, down to Akrotiri the western coast offers magnificent views of the volcano and the caldera.
Watching a sunset from a point on the west coast is a must and the round of applause from tourists that greets the final sinking of the orange sun highlights its beauty.

The volcanic eruptions have created some fantastic scenery and it is worth journeying up Mt Profitis Ilias to survey the island’s geography. From here you can see the vineyards that cover a substantial part of the island.
One can also marvel at the villages which look so precarious on the edge of the caldera and appreciate the architecture.
The east of the island does not offer the magnificence of the west but it is here that you find a number of good beaches. |

The Red Beach is famous for the colour of its rocks and sands while Kamari and Perissa are bustling with people on the dark sands and rolling waves.
A number of important historical sites add to the island’s prestige. Of these Ancient Akotori and Ancient Thira shine out and there are some exceptional museums located in Fira to give you more of a background into the history behind them.
