always the option of the ultra modern cable car. The cable car was financed by an affluent Santorini shipping magnate - Evaggelos Nomikos as a gift to the people of Santorini. It began operating from 1979 and can easily carry 1200 passengers every hour.

Gialos Port in Fira on Santorini 02 The Gialos port is known for its massive clock tower that stands like a sentinel and was built way back in the year 1881. It is popularly referred to as the Roloi. Right in front of the clock tower is the diminutive fisherman, which is the creation of master craftsman Kostas Valsamis. The fisherman welcomes the cruise liners, yachts and the caiques in its own inimitable way. There is also the bell-tower of Evangelistria that towers above.

No visit to Gialos is ever complete without a visit to the impressive Nautical Museum which showcases some rare paintings and antique models of shipping vessels.The Gialos port neighborhood is vibrant and pulsating with activity. gorgeous island of Sesklia. One can also coincide ones visit to Gialos port with a visit to the neighboring Nimborios bay. In the days of yore, Nimborios used to serve as the principal port of Symi and still captivates visitors with its magical charm.
