A visit to Nea Kameni on Santorini is a full-day affair by boat. Nea Kameni has several hot springs mostly located around the volcanic shores. Geologists are of the opinion that the hot springs of Nea Kameni have concentrated iron and manganese. It is believed that the hot springs are good for the body and have curative properties.
You need to be careful for there are certain springs which are

too shallow and where the boats cannot ply. In such cases, you will need to swim by yourself to reach the hot springs. The
reality is that the so-called “Hot Springs” are not all that hot. Lukewarm is the right word to describe the springs. Anyway, you can have a jolly good time in the springs and come out refreshed and rejuvenated. On the bottom of the springs is mud that is laced with sulphur and for this reason it is believed to be an excellent tonic for the skin.

Palia Kameni and Nea Kameni have numerous hot springs and getting there is never a problem as there are regular ferry services. Both of them are ideally positioned bang in the middle of the caldera. Geologists have found the nucleus of the ancient Santorini volcano, which is still active. The most recent depression occurred at Nea in the year 1950.
