Villages: Vourvoulos village in Santorini |
Vourvoulos Village Santorini: Vourvoulos village is located in close proximity to the town of Fira and is a mere 2.5 Km. away. The village is ideally located to the northern side of Santorini Island. Even though the sea is some distance off, yet the Vourvoulos village is a tourist’s delight with numerous architecturally splendid buildings that impart a beauty that is uniquely Santorinian.
In many ways the village of Vourvoulos is an extension of Thira Stefani but one has to admit that it is a lot calmer. Vorvoulous village offers mesmerizing views of the island of Santorini and the beach is ideal for sunbathing and relaxation.
The Vorvolous beach is desolate and is conspicuous by its black sand. First time visitors would do well to visit the quaint fishing harbor which is replete with traditional fishing boats which enhances the charm further.
As far as tourist amenities in the beach are concerned, it is at best sketchy with a few taverns. There are a few miniscule hotels that provide the basic amenities, but nothing luxurious. Actually, staying for a couple of days at Vourvoulos can be a really good idea as some of Santorini’s best known archaeological sights and the charming village of Oia are both located in close proximity to the Vourvoulos village. While at Vourvoulos village, don’t miss out on the fish based local delicacies. They are delicious and are also reasonably priced. |
