Santorini Santorini Profitis Ilias 01 The road snakes up from Kamari and climbs up the Mount. All around you can see vineyards of Santorini and as you get higher the views get better.
The monastery is right at the peak of the hill and you can see its many windowed walls.
The problem is that the top of the hill is also used as a military base. Several ugly TV style masts sit on top of the hill and a barracks gets in the way of enjoying the monastery view.
 

There are several warnings about taking photos of the military operations: don’t do it! Looking out from the hill is a different matter and the views are simply superb. Trace your eyes over the island and you can pick out vineyards, small villages, beaches and churches.

Our Impressions:
It is unfortunate that this location was chosen as a military base. But as the highest point on the island it is clearly the best location for the massive masts here. It does spoil the ambience somewhat but try and ignore this and use this spot to view the whole of the island.
