Wines and wineries of Santorini: The winerie of Volcan Wines on Santorini, Greece

Volcan Wines or Wine Museum Santorini

Unlike the other wineries here you will find an active facility and also a museum.
For a couple of Euros you can get a tour with an audio guide along with three wines to taste at the end.
The tour takes you underground and you walk along a fairly long tunnel which contains the exhibits. With the aid of the audio guide you are talked through the wine making process.

The ‘lifelike’ models are actually quite comical and some of them have seen better days. It’s hard to stifle a laugh when you here the creaking of the robotic foot over the grapes.

Nevertheless the tour is interesting and helped by the sound effects you get. There are also plenty of things to look at including a very old wooden wine press which dates from about 1660.

The tour takes about 40 minutes and then you get a chance to sample Epsikopi wines. The tour does not take you into the modern facilities but you can see the outside from the car park.

Our Impressions:
The tour is quite fun and does give you a good insight into the wine making process. Naturally tasting the wine at the end of the tour is a must.
