The Museum of Musical Instruments in Santorini is a museum dedicated to Ancient, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine musical instruments and is housed in the old Community building of Oia, at a characteristic and central point of the village.
It hosts the personal collection of Mr. Halaris, a prominent musician, and was inaugurated in October 2011.
The place comprises the result of many years of hard work.

The collection includes musical instruments dating from 2,800 BC until the early 20th century. It shows the effort to preserve music as part of an ever-changing civilization.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece contributed to the reconstruction of some musical instruments. The categorization of the exhibits is done according to their date and kind.

A visit to the museum can be arranged upon request at (0030) 22860 72000.

How to get there

The Museum of musical instruments is located in Oia village, in the pedestrian alleys. You will need a 5-minute walk from the bus stop or parking lot.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from your hotel. Alternatively, there’s the option of scheduling a direct pickup by a local driver at the following numbers: 0030 690 679 4316, 0030 22860 22555.

Car rental: There’s the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from your hotel. You can then visit the Museum of musical instruments but also many other places of interest.

Public transfers: In Oia village lies the terminal of the bus route Fira > Oia. The museum is a 5-minute walk away. Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. Bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island are available. There are buses to Oia approximately every hour. Note that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.
