Mass tourism hasn't managd to spoil the stunning natural beauty of Santorini. The sympathetic development of Oia in particular has created a world class tourist spot.
All villages of Santorini are nice to see, although beaches are not great. The most famous beach is Red beach but I personally found it too stony for my tastes. Kamari is probably better and maybe Perissa, if it is not too crowded. Try Akorotiri for a quieter corner on Santorini.
Don't be afraid to move outside your comfort zone, that is the best way to have memorable experiences. e.g. The boat trip to the Volcano and then up the hill by donkey- only, be warned... the smell is overpowering. Travelling the island on an ATV was heaps of fun especially up the hill to Old Thira. The bus service was good and efficient, but the bus stations lack information/sinage and are full of highly confused tourists wondering what they should be doing.
The island specialities add a nice theme to dining and should be sample wherever possible. We found surprisingly good food at some of the cheaper locations and excellent food in the more upscale restaurants. As a vegetarian, the fresh local dishes like fava and tomato balls were a constant pleasure. Presentation and Customer service was not as good as some other countries we had been to but was average for Greece. This does not apply to the place we stayed where the customer service was outstanding.
