More about: Santorini island
We went on a daytrip to Santorini from Mykonos, a wonderful day cruise from start to finish, though a bit expensive. It's quite true when they say that Santorini is not kind to those on a budget! There were 12 others, and two newly weds who traveled with us and it was one big "party" and the crew was simply awesome. They were so much fun and they cooked up a wonderful meal on board, which we ate somewhere between Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni. One of them was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a fabulous account of Santorinis history and geology, and it was a whole lot better than any of the travel guides you get to read up on the net.
We went around the entire caldera and stopped off in the lovely port of Fira for a couple of hours. We went up on a donkey that went right on the edge! Very frightening at some points and bit tiring for the old people, but I liked this traditional style of Santorini. Fira is a beautiful town with narrow streets, gorgeous views and so many churches! How can you find another church in every corner?
Sadly we didn't have time to go to Oia, but we liked
Santorini so much that maybe next summer we come to stay for longer. On the way back, the boat stopped off at some breathtaking spots and we jumped off the boat from a height of 3-4 meters for a swim. They provided us with snorkeling masks and we watched schools of colorful fish and the underwater scenery was amazing at some of the spots. The hot springs was a bit of a let down, though. So, dont go expecting bubbling hot streams- it is just a few degrees warmer than the rest of the sea!
