Megalochori was the quietest village we visited in Santorini. We had a very enjoyable time there and we tried tomato balls in a local tavern. I didn't like them but my husband found them tasty. Food is definetly not cheap in Santorini, but normaly tasty. Only one tavern served chicken that was gone off and charged for it anyway. Fira was far too busy than I expected. We had visited Santorini again about 9 years ago and I remember the island was more traditional and calm. Now most spots seem to be very commercial and tourist. We stayed in one of the hotels in Oia and had wonderful views, but all the steps up and down take a good bit of energy, which is fine for young visitors, but older ones may have difficulties. The ancient Fira town was amazing, although driving up was scary. Bring the wetsuit shoes to save your feet when swimming because some beaches on Santorini are very rocky and you can hurt your feet.
