Greeks are lovely and very hospitable

The Trip: I arrived on the island by Plane with Aegean Air. The trip was very good with no delays. The flight was on time unlike our other flights on Singapore airlines. The staff was friendly
Reasons for going to Santorini: A friend was getting married at sunset! I've been to Ios, Crete and Athens before and Santorini was lovely too
Idea before arriving: I knew the island was volanic, that it had a great sunset, that the sand on the beach was black and that it was popular but nothing apart from that. Our friends had supplied us with some information about the island recommending the shopping etc so that helped

- Tree Covered : 3/10
- Beaches and Waters : 10/10
- Cleanliness : 7/10 - There was quite a bit of litter on the streets
- Villages beauty : 10/10 - Fira and the area they got married was gorgeous
- Main Town beauty : 8
- Food/Restaurants : 9/10
- Nightlife : 10/10 - We didn't go out apart from dinner. There was a nightclub which was empty every night!
- Local People : 10/10 - The Greeks are lovely and very hospitable.
- Lifestyle : 10/10
- Activities : 8/10
- Prices : 8/10 - Good, the accommodation was good and breakfast was included, dinners were what we'd pay (maybe less) in New Zealand
- Authenticity : 9/10
- Peace and quiet : 9/10
- Weather : 6/10 - End of the season - two thunder storms, another rainy day, but hot when hot.
- We nearly always got freebies at dinner - either dessert or drinks. It works cause we'd go back to those places
Opinion about the accommodations:
- General, for Accommodation : 9/10 - Cleaned every day with new towels but you have to sort out your showers - it was too small with the curtain around you so we used it without and sprayed water all over the bathroom. At least we could put toilet paper down the loo unlike other places on the island! Very hard to reprogramme myself to not throw it down the toilet.
- Location (surroundings) : 9/10
- Access (distance from town, beach) : 10/10 - We were across the road from the beach just as it said it was on the internet
- Facilities (air-condition, telephone, TV) : 10/10
- Comfort : 10/10
- Service : 10/10
- Cleanliness/hygiene : 10/10
- Price : 9/10
Opinion about Travel and Transportation:
- General, for travel & transportation : 8/10 - The planes were good, the two taxi drivers that took us to and from the airport were scary - I thought I was going to die coming from the airport!
- Transfers : As above - life threatening.
- Ticket prices : It was expensive to fly to and from Santorini but our only option
- Cleanliness/hygiene : 8/10
- Safety/Security : 0/10 In the two taxis above. Both planes were good and two other taxi drivers were fine. Also the bus to Fira was a great service and cheap, although pretty busy with people standing the whole way which made it very hot for everyone on the bus
Opinion about local transportation:
- General, for local transportation : 5/10
- Vehicle's conditions : 8/10
- Service : Fine on the bus, bad in taxis.
- Safety : 0/10 - In the two cabs - at least there were seat belts.
- Tickets and prices : Bus was cheap, taxi driver back to airport picked us up and another couple and charged both us of 20 euro whereas the taxi in cost us 20 euro for 2 (not 40 for 4 people). I thought sharing a taxi with other people would be cheaper, not much expensive! That's the way it works here.

- Conditions of roads : 7/10
Favorite things about the Santorini
- Best Beaches : Perissa was the only one we went to - it was nice
- Best Activity : The wedding we went to
- Best Bar/Pub/Club : Yazz? on Perissa beach - nice friendly guys who run it
It's a shame the restaurants have to cater for the British appetite and can't just serve nice Greek food
Negative opinion about Santorini
Sort out the taxi drivers - make them slow down, not over take on blind corners, not over charge
Recommendations for future visitors to Santorini
Go a bit earlier than we did for more sun, stay a bit longer, do less shopping and spend more time sunbathing!
