Santorini Review:
Nationality: Australian

My wife and I had visited Rhodes and Crete many years ago and decided it was time to see some of the other Greek islands. One of our daughters is currently living in Istanbul and we flew there from Australia and took our daughter with us to Mykonos, Santorini and Samos for her 30th birthday gift. There are direct flights from Istanbul to Mykonos so that decided our starting point. Mykonos was marvellous although our choice of accommodation proved to be disappointing. It was called Fidelis Villas and appeared great on the the website but in reality is in desperate need of maintenance and upgrading. We had a 2 story villa with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The hot water system in the downstairs bathroom did not work and although we raised this with the manager, nothing was done about it during our 3 day stay. Although there was daily room service and towels were changed, the place was not cleaned. The town was great and restaurants served good food at inflated prices. From Mykonos, we travelled on the Flying Cat ferry to Santorini. This is a marvellous boat, and the journey was very pleasant.

Our accommodation in Santorini was at a modern place just outside the town called Milos Villas and this is a wonderful place. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast which is included in the room rate is served in a dining room overlooking the town of Thira. The lady who runs the place is lovely and extremely helpful. The town is fascinating and appears to be well maintained. Our only complaint concerns the amount of donkey droppings littering the laneways and the resultant smell...most unpleasant. The donkeys should have catchers fitted to contain the droppings.

From Santorini we took a ferry first to Naxos then a second ferry to Samos. This is a most pleasant island and our accommodation there was the Aeolis Hotel. Located right on the waterfront and only a short walk from the ferry port, it well positioned and offered good rooms with balconies overlooking the harbour. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

We thank the people of the Greek Islands for their hospitality.
