When I think of my trip to Santorini, it certainly seems like a fairy tale... ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT. A trip to
Santorini had been on my life's "to do" list for a very long time, having heard from friends about the astounding beauty of the place. But what I saw exceeded all my expectations. And to think that the island came into existence as a result of one of the most catastrophic volcanic explosions in the history of the world, makes it even more compelling. Added to that is the fantastic myth of the Atlantis.
As I took in the breathtaking views of the town clinging to the edge of the caldera, I realized that all this beauty was simply one of nature's vagaries. The volcano is still active! And that is probably what makes the place so elusive and mystical. I found that no photographs could really do justice to the ethereal beauty of Santorini. I spent about a week on the island and my favourite time was sitting on my terrace (the hotel had an outdoor dining area with amazing views of the caldera and the waters). As I watched the sunsets (that the island is famous for) and the cruise ships that looked like toy ships on the far waters, it occurred to me that Santorini is indeed, as many claim, the most beautiful place in Greece.
