Santorini is very picturesque and beautiful but I experienced terrible hospitality and customer service just about everywhere I went. It was very hurtful and disappointing. Oia and Pyrgos was my favorite of the places in Santorini. The island is truly beautiful in very way. Too many tourists in Fira in July. The beaches were nice, but it was too hot in July. I didn't do the nightlife, though I enjoyed seeing the buzz and energy around Fira and Oia at night.
I was very disappointed in the food and rude waitressing on Santorini. Even when I tried to treat myself to a $35 or $90 meal, the food was not that flavorful or out of the ordinary. It was unique, but not delicious. I experienced horrible (one of the rudest) hospitality and waitressing experience by one wiater there (he was bald) at a restaurant in Firostefani. It was very upsetting as he was very arrogant and just out right rude to me and my friend. Santorini does have the best croissants though! Authorities should rate the restaurants and hotels for hospitality, friendliness, and customer service.
I would warn future tourists to be aware of the level of hospitality and customer service they might receive. My experience was nothing that came out of all the tour guide books claiming that the Greek hospitality will greet you with warm smiles, openness, etc. I had waiters drop off my food without greeting me, thanking me, I had owners in shops slamming down my credit card, the pen and the paper for me to sign because I didn't have cash to pay for my items. I had hotel owners barely showing any interest in helping me when I needed something from their hotel. I had bus service people in Fira not wanting to answer my questions and brushing me off. The list goes on. It was very disappointing.
