Santorini is a magnificant island. It is very clean, beautiful and peaceful. We stayed in the village of Oia at the northern tip of the island. It is smaller and quieter than other areas of Santorini. Yet, the island is so small that you can easily visit other areas. We drove from one end to the other in about 45 minutes. There are not many good beaches - the best one is Perissa. There are many good restaurants to enjoy and shops to browse. All of the taverns offer typical Greek fare - which is the only thing we ever ordered. Many also offer pastas and more "North American" choices, such as burgers. I would highly recommend spending a few extra dollars per night to stay in a hotel or resort that is located on the cliffs. For us, we enjoyed sitting on our patio first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
