Beautiful but high rates

The trip: I got to Santorini Island by plane (American Airlines) with a transfer to Zurich then Athens and then by boat (Blue Star). The trip was good except from delays both for plane and boat. Excellent ferry system, very confortable and affordable.
Reasons for going to Santorini: It is not the first time we go to Santorini Island. The first time the island was recommended by friends and we discovered more info and pictures on the internet. We wanted to see some of the famous islands and discover the people and their culture. People in Greece are very polite and do not hustle you like in Turkey.
Idea before arriving: Everything that I read and saw in my books and on the internet site. That Santorini was the most beautiful of all the islands of Greece with some of the most breathtaking views.
Expectations and opinions: Yes, it met my expectations.
- Island/area: 10/10 Incredible island but too many cruiseships and people.
- Landscapes: 8/10
- Tree Covered: 3/10
- Beaches & waters: 10/10 We really loved this black and red sand
- Cleanliness: 10/10 Nice & clean & safe
- Villages: 10/10 Main Town: 8/10
- Food/ restaurants: 9/10 Enjoyed authentic food
- Nightlife: -/10 n/a we passed the age...
- Local people: 9/10 Very friendly
- Accommodation: 10/10 Volcano View Hotel - Gorgeous
- Activities -/10 Excursions -/10 Sightseeing: -/10 We did mostly everything without any organised tour
- Prices: 7/10 Higher that I thought because of Euro value
- Public Transportations: 10/10 Very good and no delays
- Authenticity 10/10
- Peace & quiet 9/10 But depends where you are
- Weather 10/10 Beautiful but must be very hot in the middle of the summer
We found a great hotel during our stay on the island of Ios - Hotel Mediteraneo - Great atmosphere, food and service. Very reasonable.
Favorite thing about Santorini: The village of Oia. Going up and down winding streets and beautiful views. The sunsets are amazing!
Negative opinion: The car rental rates are very high. Taxis are very expensive for short rides.
Recommendations: Do not go in high season. Too much people. Just try to see everything. The island is very beautiful but also very interesting from an historic point of view. Go to the museums.
Yes, this is the second time we went to Santorini and hope that there will be a third time. It is just a very long way from San Francisco.
Rate of the overall quality/organization/services of this island/area in comparison with other countries: 10/10 Excellent
