Visiting the Mediterranean Islands is always an enchanting experience and Santorini has been our desirable place to go for a long time. From Athens airport, the flight is a little over 40 mins. Whereas, I've heard that if you go by boat, it will take about 8 hrs to reach the island. The island is surrounded by steep cliffs which are dotted with beautiful houses on the slopes. At night, when the houses are lit, the view is spectacular. Beaches on Santorini are always crowded. Try Kamari and Perissa, although I think beaches on Santorini are not the best you can find on the Greek islands.
The villages were beautiful, but I thought Fira had lost a bit of its authenticity, as it was so crowded and loud. Oia was better and more artistic. There were painters in very corner ready to make your portrait or to catch the sunset. The atmosphere on the island was generally a bit confusing: from one part, the romantic sense of Oia, the sunset and the views to the caldera and from the other part, the busy streets of Fira and crowded beaches on the southern side.
