The trip: I arrived to Santorini Island by ferrie from the port of Piraeus. The trip was really pleasant... long but pleasant. It was my first holidays for a long time and had really great company.
Reasons for going to Santorini: Many friends of mine had been to Santorini an always told me that it was a great place. They told me that it was one of the most romantic spots on earth. Unfortunately I didn't had a boyfriend to share it with :)
Idea before arriving: Knew about the active volcano, the cliffs, the villages, the restaurants and the nightlife. Everybody had told me that the beaches were really particular as the sand was black. Some of them didn't like the beaches and some others really enjoyed them. I was very curious about them.
Expectations and opinions: It met my expactions. I didn't had holidays for so long time that I would had enjoyed any island!! But no, the island is great. I understand why it attracts so many people. It is exactly what I was thinking of. Great views over the volcano, great accommodation (I was really jealous about the great accommodations and their pools overlooking the volcano. I was on a budget hotel without any view :( but really couldn't afford them). The food was ok but expensive in comparaison with other islands. And not necessarily better.
I found that the beaches were great. There are really unique and it was the first time I was on a black sandy beach. Some of the beaches of Santorini Island are really well organised with beach bars and the atmosphere is great. The only thing is that the waters there are extremely deep. And 2 metres from the beach your foots can't reach the bottom.
Favorite thing about Santorini: Nothing favorite. Everything there is great. Maybe the incredible sunset from Oia if I had a boyfriend :) No, seriously I haven't find anything particular about the sunset. It is just a sunset. Maybe as I am Greek and I am used to greek Islands, the fact of seeing a sunset behind the sea is something ordinary.
Negative opinion: Noathing negative either. maybe too much tourists in some areas.
Recommendations: Do not go there. It is terrible! lol... no... all the contrary but we should keep that secret otherwise they will built more buildings and that is a long term destruction of the island. Go to Thailand. They have more needs than we do!
I will definitely go back to Santorini and also many other places in Greece. I promise myself that I will go there again only if I have a boyfriend.
