More about: Santorini island
This is definitely a beach to come see - but be prepared. Access to the beach is via a fairly rough, steep trail with precipitous drop-offs. Plan on wearing tennis shoes, not flip-flops or sandals for the climb. Alternatively, you can take a water taxi from just below where the bus drops you off. The taxi drops you off in calf-high water, so plan accordingly with water shoes or dive boots.

Water shoes or dive boots are a must for walking on the beach and/or into the water. The "sand" is very hot and full of uncomfortably large rocks. Likewise, wading into the water is difficult for the rocky shore.

The landscape is magnificent - the red rocks overlooking the dark beach is very impressive. And so were the crowds when we visited in early July 2008! Female toplessness is not unusual.

There are NO facilities on the beach and not much nearby - there are a few stands near the car park for water, food, etc. - make sure you bring whatever you expect to need.
