Marpissa Byzantine Museum: Information on the Byzantine Art Gallery in Marpissa Paros

Byzantine Art Gallery in Marpissa Paros
The Byzantine Art Gallery in Marpissa ParosThe Byzantine Art Gallery in Marpissa Paros: In the centre of the mountainous village of Marpissa, on Paros, you will find a small but very interesting museum: the Byzantine Art Gallery of Marpissa. It is situated just behind the church of the Transfiguration of the Christ (Metamorphosis), the main church of the village, and very close to the central square. Its architecture looks like a church, all painted in white, with a wooden door, narrow windows and a marble statue of an archbishop next to the door.

The Byzantine Art Gallery of Marpissa includes mostly religious exhibits from the Byzantine and the Post-Byzantine times.

There you will find holy icons from the 15th and the 16th century, most of which were previously exposed in churches of the village, and an old epitaph from the Monastery of Agios Antonios in Kastro. It is open usually in the morning, on weekdays.
