The Museum of Byzantine Art in Naoussa: The Byzantine art-works are uniquely portrayed by a rich utilization of colour. The objects of art appear smooth, rigid and like being suspended. The eyes are always large. The backgrounds are most of the time painted golden. The style of Byzantine art was clear and simple. The architects of this school of art were always preferential of massive domes in their architecture.

The “Museum of Byzantine Art” of Naoussa is located inside the renovated monastery of Agios Athanasios, in the western part of Naoussa in Paros. Some breathtaking frescoes and paintings.

This famous museum also houses works of art such as “The dating back to the 12th century, which were found in a small, dilapidated Byzantine church in the region of “Protoria”, in the south of Naoussa, were moved and restored in this museum lately. Prayer”, “The Deposition from the Cross” and “Virgin Mary holding Christ” from the 15th and 16th century.

Skilful craftsmanship in woodwork, Roman sculptures and icons speak volumes about the Byzantine art as it is evident from the artifacts showcased in the Museum Of Byzantine Art in Naoussa. It is also noteworthy that numerous Byzantine as well as post-Byzantine icons painted by local artists adorn the galleries of the museum.
