Known
as a quiet and unspoiled island, Anti Paros has seen its
tourism developing in the past few years and hotels are
now lining its waterfront; however, it still has kept
its natural beauty and has many nice and unspoiled beaches
to offer, with crystalline waters and golden sand.
The village of Kastro, also called
Anti Paros, is the capital of Anti Paros Island and was
built around the castle erected, around 1440, by Loredano,in
order to protect the then capital from the raids of the
pirates.
Kastro is a traditional Cycladic settlement, full of whitewashed
cubic houses with blue painted doors and windows and little
flowered balconies.
The island’s main attraction is the interesting and
impressing stalactites cave, located on thesouthern part
of Anti Paros, on a hill called Agios Ioannis.
In this cave, in 1673, the ambassador of Louis XIV, Marquis
de Nointel organized a Christmas festivity and brought
a whole orchestra to play and Othon, the Bavarian king
of Greece, left his signature on the walls of the cave.
Tourism is increasing every year as is the tourism development
but the number of hotels and rooms for rent are still
of a decent amount and quite limited to host many visitors
during high season.
Anti Paros is reachable only by a little caique (small
fishing boat) leaving from Parikia, Paros’ main harbour,
or Pounda, Paros’ most famous beach.
