More about: Paros island

Just before Christmas, a German ship transfered in the small port of Parikia, the capital of Paros, four wind-generators of 900 MW each for the construction of the aeolic energy park on the island.

It was in the late 1980s and the middle 1990s that the Public Energy Enterprise (DEI) of Greece first measured the strength of the wind in two spots on Paros (Vounia and Kamares) and figured out that Kamares is the best place to build such a park.

It is estimated that till April 2010 the park will be able to produce 3 MW. The energy will be transfered to a substation in Agioi Apostoloi and then it will be distributed to the network of the Public Energy Enterprise.

Apart from the aeolic park in Paros, eight more parks will be constructed in many Greek islands: in Crete (two), Samos (two), Sifnos, Lesvos, Rhodes and Lemnos, in an effort to exploit the rich wind force that is blowing all the year round over the Aegean.
