Paros is an island of the Cyclades located almost in the center of the complex. In particular, it lies 86 nautical miles (160 km) from Athens.
Its port lies in Parikia, the capital town of the island and the center of life and activities. All ferries to/from Paros arrive or depart from there. The island also has an airport, but the most common way to reach it is by ferry.

From Athens

Most of the travelers visiting Paros leave from Athens. Ferries to Paros depart from Piraeus, which is the main and biggest port of the Greek Capital, situated only 12km away from the city center. The port of Rafina is the eastern port of Athens, located near the Airport.

The duration varies from a minimum of 2h50m to a maximum of 6h20m, whereas the average time is around 4 hours. That depends on the type of vessel (conventional or high-speed), the port of departure (Piraeus or Rafina), the in-between stops to other islands, and, on some rare occasions, the weather/wind conditions.

• What ferries are operating from Athens to Paros?
There are two types of vessels operating this route: the conventional ones run by the Blue Star company and high-speed ones run by Seajets, Minoan Lines, Golden Star, and Fast Ferries companies.

> Conventional ferries
The conventional type of ferry is a big vessel with several indoor and outdoor spaces and a garage. If you are traveling with a dog, an organized kennel is available. However, depending on the vessel, you may be able to keep your dog with you on the deck. Restaurants, fast food eateries, cafeterias, small shops with magazines, and more run on the ship. All interior spaces are air-conditioned. Crossing with a conventional Blue Star Ferry is the most popular option. Most vessels have a garage and you can transfer your car or motorbike from Athens to Paros. The big advantage of choosing high-speed ferries is that they go faster and the price is similar to the conventional ferries'. On the other hand, because of the vessels' small size, bad weather conditions affect them and it has been noticed that delays may occur.

WHERE TO GO FOR A DAY TRIP

The perfect day trip from Paros is to Antiparos Island. Antiparos is located just one mile away from Paros. Its size is very small, making it ideal for a day excursion. Due to their proximity, only small boats operate the crossing almost one time per hour. The boats for Antiparos depart from the ports of Parikia and Pounda. The trip from Pounda lasts 7 minutes and the ticket costs €1.50. On the other hand, the trip from Parikia lasts 30 minutes, and the ticket costs €5. Ferries from/to Pounda are available throughout the year, yet itineraries from/to Parikia are only available during summer.
Note: All tickets from/to Antiparos are purchased locally, therefore booking a ticket online is not possible.
Naxos is only a short ferry route away from Paros. It is not considered the ideal day trip since the island is very big with many things to see and do so you shall need more than one day to discover it. Nonetheless, if you just want to take a glimpse of life in Naxos or visit a specific beach or its beautiful Chora, then taking a morning ferry from Paros and returning with an evening one is ideal.

• Where is the port of Paros?
The port where all the ferries arrive and depart in Paros is located in Parikia (Chora), the capital of the island and the center of life. From the Port, you can admire Panagia Ekatontapiliani Monastery, the landmark of Parikia, along with the famous whitewashed Cycladic houses. The port itself is located in a very central part of the town.

• How can I get from the port to the beaches?
The Central Bus station (KTEL Buses) of the island is located at the port's entrance. It is the starting and ending point of all bus schedules to the most famous beaches and some villages on the island. Right next to the buses, you will find a taxi rank, too.
